Horses
• 2-Way = Modified Live Rhino (EHV 1/4) and Influenza (EIV)
• 3-Way = Eastern and Western Encephalitis, Tetanus
• 4-Way = Eastern and Western Encephalitis, Tetanus, West Nile Virus
• WNV=West Nile Virus
• Strangles Vaccine = Streptococcus equi. subsp. equi
• Killed Rhino = EHV1 (prevents EHV induced abortion/respiratory disease)- “Pneumabort”

* Do not give modified live Rhino or Influenza to pregnant mares or to horses in contact with pregnant mares. Use only killed vaccines in these situations.

High Risk Horses:
These are horses which are kept in high traffic facilities (horses brought on and off the property continually), show horses which travel to events, breeding farms, etc.

Low Risk Horses:
These are horses which don’t travel off the property, kept on a low traffic property, and have minimal contact with other horses which are of high risk status

Foals:
Mare is unvaccinated, or NOT vaccinated in the last 3 months of pregnancy:
High Risk – 3-Way + WNV – 4 mos, 5mos, 1 year; 2-Way and +/- Strangles – 6 mos, 7 mos, 1 yr
Low Risk – 3-Way + WNV – 6 mos, 7 mos, 1 yr

Mare was vaccinated in last three months of pregnancy:
High Risk – 2-Way, 3-Way+WNV and +/- Strangles – 6 mos, 7 mos, 1 yr
Low Risk – 3-Way + WNV – 6 mos, 7 mos, 1 yr

Mares:

Pregnant:
Pneumabort (killed Rhino) – 5, 7, and 9 months of pregnancy and then 1 month prior to foaling to stimulate colostral immunity.
3-Way + West Nile – 1 month prior to foaling

* Do not give modified live Rhino or Influenza to pregnant mares or to horses in contact with pregnant mares. Use only killed vaccines in these situations.

Pre-Breeding:
2-Way, 3-Way + West Nile, +/- Strangles – 2 to 4 weeks prior to breeding

Yearlings (unvaccinated as foals):
High Risk-2-Way, 3-Way, WNV , +/- Strangles – 2 doses 4 weeks apart
Low Risk-3-Way, WNV-2 doses 4 weeks apart

*Boost 2-Way every 6 months, or prior to exposure situations

*Boost 3-Way + WNV+/- Strangles annually

Pleasure/Performance Horses:

Previously Vaccinated:
High Risk: 2-Way every 6 months, 3-Way + WNV and +/- Strangles annually
Low Risk: 3 Way+ WNV annually

Unvaccinated/Unknown Vaccination history:
High Risk: 2-Way-Boost 4 weeks later, then every 6 months; 3-WAY + WNV and +/- Strangles-Boost 4 weeks later, then annually
Low Risk: 3 Way+ WNV- Booster 4 weeks later, then annually

Rabies
Potomac Horse Fever (important around Red Deer River, Central AB, and Rocky Mtns.)
